Important Parts of the Home to Waterproof

broken image

Each year, 55 percent of American homeowners complete one or more renovation projects. Property owners complete renovation projects for different reasons, such as increasing the value of a home. Other renovation projects, including waterproofing renovations, keep the house livable.

Homeowners must complete waterproofing in several parts of their homes as wet springs and long storms can cause flooding. The number of US properties that have flooded multiple times has consistently risen. Therefore, homeowners should invest in waterproofing their basements and roofs to avoid costly leaks and seepage.

Waterproofing projects prevent or minimize damage from flooding. They also prevent damage to exterior areas, such as balconies, decks, and porches, exposed to the elements and can suffer damage from excessive rain, dampness, and moisture. Wood-framed balconies are especially prone to seepage, though concrete structures require flooding protection against cracks and mildew.

Finally, interior spaces also benefit from waterproofing efforts, particularly those regularly exposed to water, such as the bathroom and kitchen. Moisture build-ups and leaks can damage bathrooms and spread through floorboards and walls to other parts of the house. Homeowners should also consider waterproofing their counters, cabinets, and backsplashes.
